Preparing for a Press Conference
In this scenario, the president has called forth a press conference to talk about the negotiations with Iran. Detailing how the it went and what the pan was to halt nuclear arms development. To prepare, I'd do the following:
- Research the matter. I cannot write a story I know nothing about. I would make sure to find out the underlying conflicts and assumptions of the deal. Also who is involved in this deal. How it effects both American and Iranian citizens. Also, the history associated with this deal.
- Prepare questions. There are sure to be many other reporters at the conference and I should have my questions and follow up questions ready and practiced. They should also be refined and well stated in order to get the best response possible. This would require a lot of practice and my end.
- Set up interviews. Primarily with someone involved in the deal or who has extensive knowledge on it. This will provide additional sources who will round-out the story. Perhaps even an expert in Iranian history.
- Ensure that all my equipment is ready. Materials such as notebooks, pens, and especially a device for recording for exact quotes. Extra batteries or a charger wouldn't hurt to bring either. Malfunctions can happen at any moment.
