Federal Communications Commission in Control

The Federal Communications Commission is an organization that works under Congress to to regulate all forms of communication in the United States and its territories. This agency upholds communication laws and also encourages technological innovation within communications.
The organization itself  is separated into different bureaus and offices which are headed by five commissioners appointed by the president. Additionally to avoid any potential bias, no more than three of these commissioners may be of the same political party.
As far as its potential to disturb news broadcasting, while it can be nuisance and bring bad publicity, it seems that the FCC cannot truly disrupt or revoke a segment or show for many cases. As doing so would step on the reporter's first amendment to right of free speech.
Instead, what the FCC does is receive and investigate complaints from viewers who believe the newscast is bias or spreads false information. The FCC will then dig deeper into the station and ensure it is following U.S. Laws for its broadcast and is not intentionally spreading false information. If not, they are limited in their power to giving penalties. If they are found to be intentionally misconstruing information, the station or segment will be subject to penalties and other punishments.
Otherwise, the FCC doesn't seem to be a bad thing for newscasters if they are doing their job ethically and professionally.  In fact it benefits the public and it ensures that the information they are receiving is accurate and responsible.
