For this blog post, I decided to visit the New York Times' opinion page. The largest and first article that can be found on that page is an article entitled, "Why Won't Hollywood Cast Asian Actors?". Which talks about a prevalent issue and discussion promoted by the casting of actress, Scarlett Johansson in an Asian role.
To the right of this article, there are several links for articles written about politicians and policies. Directly below it are more articles that go over social justice issues. It then goes on to scrutinize leaders and politicians once again.
This platform allows for individuals to talk more about issues that are more relevant to them. It also allows for more freedom of emotion as new-stories often (and rightly so) stick to the facts. It lets citizens vent and converse about the current issues occurring in the nation.
I definitely feel that this agency has a place in news. As I mentioned, it's a break from the facts and lets the reader be aware of issues that are perhaps not covered usually in the news, and also gives them a chance to see the emotion and reasoning of someone who has a different point of view. This is important in news agencies where perhaps their stories have a slight bias whatever the reason may be. These kind of stories help put things in perspective.
